Dr Rosalind Peart – Principal Dentist
Rosalind Peart graduated from Wits University in South Africa in 1989. She immediately went to work for a colleague running two private general dental practices in Johannesburg. While this certainly provided a rapid learning curve and good experience, Ros decided private practice was not for her and she travelled to the UK to consider her options there with a thought to emigrating.
Chance stepped in and a position as Dental Officer for a gold mining company became available. For the next three years, Ros worked for Goldfields taking care of the dental needs of their massive mining workforce. This was an almost entirely surgical role and although very daunting at first, the experience of managing serious trauma and infection was to prove invaluable in years to come.
Heading for 30 and contemplating starting a family, Ros decided to leave the mining environment and headed back to Johannesburg and private practice. After three years and with a beautiful baby girl of 18 months, Ros moved to the Cape and started her own private practice. Somerset West in the gorgeous wine lands of the Cape was home for the next few years. Surrounded by supportive colleagues and an excellent network of specialist dentists, running an exclusive private dental practice proved enjoyable and clinically very rewarding.
As Ros’s daughter grew, Ros realised that her daughter’s opportunities outside of South Africa would be vastly better. So, in 2004 Ros moved to New Zealand taking an eight year old Liz with her. She was very fortunate to arrive in the lovely town of Cambridge and work for a colleague for 18 months while she found her feet and familiarised herself with the dental world in New Zealand. She was struck by how kind and helpful Kiwis are and in particular the team of people she worked with.
After 18 months in Cambridge, a local dentist decided to retire and Ros acquired his practice. In the last ten years, Cambridge Dental has grown and has moved to a purpose built building where it continues to evolve. Ros’s nurse, Pat, has been with her since the moment she picked up a mirror and probe in New Zealand and Liz, Practice Manager, has stood by her side since acquiring Cambridge Dental.
Ros’s aspiration for excellence in clinical care has never dimmed and she still aims to improve her knowledge and skills on a daily basis. October 2017 herald’s the arrival of some leading edge technology and equipment which Cambridge Dental will be amongst the first to acquire in New Zealand.
Dr Graham Fulton
Graham is dual qualified in both Dentistry and Medicine. He graduated BDS with Commendation from the University of Glasgow in 2001 and MBChB from Edinburgh in 2010. He has had a rich and varied career which has spanned a large scope of Dentistry both in his native Scotland and New Zealand. He has a wide base of experience in hospital based Medicine, particularly Maxillofacial Surgery and Emergency Medicine.
Graham has gained his Diploma in the Membership of Dental Surgeons at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MFDS RCPS) along with his Surgical exams as Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MRCS). He is a former Maxillofacial Surgery Registrar and is comfortable performing basic Oral Surgical procedures in Dental Practice.
Graham fosters an interst in expedition medicine and has acted in this capacity as a visiting Dentist in the Apurimac region of Peru along with a role as a Dive Medic/Dentist for a Conservation trip to Belize. In his spare time he enjoys gardening and being a part time stay at home Dad to his daughter(which has been the toughest part of his career to date!)
He enjoys all Aspects of Dentistry particularly Oral Surgery, Root Canal Treatment and the care of of anxious patient with Sedation and Hypnosis.Graham is committed to an excellent standard of Dentistry carried out in a relaxed and caring manner.
Dennis Shepherd – Specialist Consultant
Dennis is our Prosthodontist (specialist restorative dentist) and has a post graduate diploma in Periodontics.
Dennis works in the practice once a month making his extensive knowledge and particular skills available to our patients in house.
Ros and Dennis have a long-standing professional relationships that began whilst qualifying as dentists at Wits University in South Africa.
Sian Mansill – Hygienist
Having left school Sian studied for a Certificate in Dental Nursing and in 2011 achieved her Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from the University of Liverpool. In 2018 Sian moved from Whangerei with her husband and young family to be nearer to her mum in Cambridge and other extended family members. We were delighted when we found such a gem on our doorstep. As you can see from her own beaming smile Sian is a warm and bubbly personality. She is thorough and meticulous in her work and a fantastic addition to the team.
Liz McCormack – Practice Manager
This lady is the backbone of our practice. Not only does she take care of all of us but she manages our patients with the utmost skill and kind regard.
Liz has a very long history with the dental world and in her quiet and proficient manner steers us through every day.
Originally from Scotland, Liz immigrated to New Zealand in 2004 with her husband and daughter.
Kerry Raina – Dental Assistant
Since October 2017 Kerry has very efficiently taken on the role of Lead Dental Assistant. Kerry has many years of experience in the dental industry and is responsible for numerous clinical requirements. She ensures that all Infection Control and Health and Safety guidelines are met and updated when necessary. Kerry supports the other clinical staff and liases with laboratories and equipment technicians. She is in charge of stock control and ordering. In between all of that Kerry is a steadfast and rock solid assistant to Ros in the treatment room. She has a wonderful empathy and genuine care for her patients. Recently Kerry has been spending some time with Liz at the Front Office expanding her skill set and making herself even more valuable.
Outside of work Kerry is a wife and mum to one adult son. She enjoys spending time with friends and family and catching snapper at the Coromandel mussel farms!
Pat Schinkel – Dental Assistant
Ros and Pat have worked together ever since Ros arrived in New Zealand. Pat spends a little more time with her grandchildren and extended family now but still helps us out on a regular basis. We love the days she comes in and quietly and calmly takes control of our clinical environment, not to mention the yummy bran muffins that turn up in the staff room. 🙂
Liz – Dental Assistant
Liz is Ros’s daughter and has been helping her mum at work almost since she could walk.
She is now a very proficient dental nurse and equally helpful at the front desk.
Liz will shortly have her second degree under her belt as a qualified Speech Therapist and soon to be Audiologist.
