Skin and Dentofacial Aesthetics.

What is going on on the outside? That has become the focus in the practice this year. Every 6 months we see people who think they are well. Sadly for some of our patient’s that is not the case. The incidence of precancerous and malignant skin lesions is on the rise and I had to ask myself why, when we have the perfect opportunity, were we not talking to people about their skin?

This year I have completed an extensive programme run by the Australasian Academy of Dento-facial Aesthetics and Training. Primarily the aim is to make patients aware of the condition of their skin , help them to improve that and prevent further damage as far as possible. Once that is achieved any rejuvenating procedures will have a better and longer lasting result.

In August we’ll will be acquiring a Skin Analyser. This piece of equipment analyses the skin condition and provides a visual image indicating the problem areas. We intend making a skin analysis part and parcel of our patient’s annual exam at no extra cost. At the very least I am hoping that seeing the UV damage that is happening to many of our patients will at least inspire them to use sunblock and use it effectively.
